IELTS in Mandalay

Band 6.0, with the work shown.

IELTS Academic, in groups of eight, four days a week. Start with IELTS Foundation if you are at B1 and the exam still feels like a wall; move to IELTS Preparation when you are ready to train technique against the clock.

Four papers, and what we do about each.

IELTS Academic asks four different things of you, and the four are not equally hard for the same person. Preparation trains all of them; the mocks tell you which one is costing you the band.

Listening

One recording, one chance, four sections that get harder. We drill the transfer of an answer you half-heard into the box without losing the next question.

Reading

Three long passages against the clock. The work is not reading faster; it is deciding sooner what a question is actually asking and where the answer lives.

Writing

Two tasks, two entirely different jobs: describe what a chart shows without opinion, then argue a case with one. Marked and returned, so you see your own pattern.

Speaking

A conversation with an examiner in three parts. This is the paper a speaking-focused school should be best at, and it is why you talk in eight of the ten sections of every lesson.

You find out where you stand before the exam does.

A band you are told at the end is not much use. Preparation runs checkpoint mocks through the course and full mock exams under timed conditions, so the first time you sit a complete paper is not the real one.

Groups of eight

Small enough that every student speaks in every lesson and every piece of writing comes back marked.

Four days a week

Ninety minutes, Monday to Thursday, on campus. Twenty-four weeks for Preparation, twelve for Foundation.

A written report

A written report at the end of the course. IELTS Preparation runs in two parts, so it also has a checkpoint at week twelve; IELTS Foundation is twelve weeks straight through.

What people ask about IELTS.

Which course do I need?

Take the placement test and we will tell you. As a rule: at B1, or if a full IELTS paper feels overwhelming, start with IELTS Foundation. At B1+ or B2, or after Foundation or Intensive English, go straight into IELTS Preparation.

Do you guarantee a band?

No, and be careful with anyone who does. IELTS Preparation aims at an overall Band 6.0 and trains every paper toward it; what you get depends on where you start and what you do between lessons. Foundation reaches an indicative 5.5 to 6.0 level.

Is this IELTS Academic or General Training?

Academic, which is the one universities and most professional bodies ask for. If you need General Training, message us before you enrol and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Do you book the exam for me?

No. You book your own test date with the test centre, and we help you choose when to sit it based on how your mocks are going.

Can I do IELTS online?

IELTS Foundation and Preparation run on campus, Monday to Thursday afternoons. Our online classes on Discord are the Essential, Fluent, Intensive and Juniors programs. Message us if campus times do not work and we will tell you what is possible.

Start where you actually are.

The IELTS placement test takes about forty minutes and it is free. It tells us which of the two IELTS courses fits, and whether you would be better off in Intensive English for a term first.
